In 1993 Milestone comics/media launched and was published by DC comics. This unique group of creators gave us a universe full of unique characters, there was a book for everyone and here we are 30 years later!!! The relaunch of Milestone came on the heels of Covid in 2021.
This 30th Anniversary special is just that special!!! We have the talents of Evan Narcisse, Ataguh Ilhan, ChrisCross, Dexter Vines, Juan Castro, Norm Rapmund, Chris Sotomayor and so many more!!!
The first story is, “Should the new myth supplant the old?” It’s a great question with an unbelievable answer in this Rift inspired story about a world of the past colliding with the world of today. If you are an old head (like me) or new to the game, this story is for you!!! (Check out the Black comic Lords Interview with ChrisCross and Evan Narcisse who collaborated on this story)
Next up we have “Static Beyond” by Nikolas Draper-Ivey(writer/artist). This story brings the new Batman of tomorrow face to face with an older more powerful Static. This story lives up to the talent behind it. I loved the flow and eye catching explosive action.
Icon, Icon, Icon. Is he really retired? Well it was only a matter of time before the mantle was passed to Rocket in the tale by Stephanie Williams and art by Yasmin Flores Montanez (Note: Tune in to the Black Comic Lords YouTube channel on March 25 2023 for a special live show with Stephanie). It’s a heartfelt story about growth, balance and the future as Amistad (Raquel’s son) is all grown up and going to McDuffie College. Now that he is off at college and we have a new Icon can she live up to being the full time protector of Dakota? You best believe it!!
Come on Geoffrey Thorne, you and Sean Damien Hill out here giving us a Blood Syndicate story!? Paris Island is home to the meta human heroes Blood Syndicate and now with the police gone and Holocaust’s crew shattered its up to the Syndicate to govern Paris Island, but there is more to this than meets the eye as we catch a glimpse into the future and the man moving them around like chess piece–Dharma is at the center of this amazing story.
Lastly is a special Static preview of an upcoming graphic novel about Virgil and his night out on the town with his crew. I won’t spoil it, but it’s a fun read and a perfect way to close out this book (Check out the Black Comic Lords’ interview with writer Lamar Giles).
There are multiple covers for this book. I definitely had to grab the 1:25 Bill Sienkiewicz cover. It’s a tribute to his work on the 1993 poster for comic shops. Sadly, for those of us who watched (Milestone Generations) on HBO max, we know that a lot of shops never utilized the poster. I highly recommend you check it on HBO, it gives so much information about Milestone media as a whole.
As always go out and support your local shops and if you don’t have one check out TFAW.com and save on the cover price. ✌🏾
