Year: 1967 Controversial: This comic has been tagged for being controversial because Black Spider was the first black villain in DC comics that was revealed to be black. Black Manta wouldn’t be revealed to be black until a year later. Some believe that Black spider is the first black villain due to this finding. Also, some believe that black Manta was always white up until this point due to his voice actors for the cartoons at the time being white, and it was not commonplace to have a white actor’s voice-over black characters at the time.
