Jungle Tales #3

Significance:

• First cover appearance of the African Prince, Waku. The first black “hero” to appear on the cover of a Marvel property comic book (“Atlas”, Marvel’s previous title). Waku was a part of a seven issue run in Jungle Tales 1-7. He never appeared on the actual cover until issue #3. Most importantly, this book is praised by how strong and distinguished Waku appeared on the cover, which was extremely uncommon during that Golden Age period. This is also some of John Romita Sr.’s earlier work before Atlas became Marvel.
